Day 29: Weird laws pt. 2

Today is Sunday which means church and relaxing. That is what I did. It was wonderful. I slept like a baby for a while too. I even got some school work done which was also nice. However, for now enjoy a take on a classic myth and discover if it is true or if it is in fact fake.

Here is one of my favorites: it is illegal to hunt whales in Utah. My favorite mythbusting sight, Snopes, came up empty handed. They can neither confirm nor deny this myth. The Salt Tribune asked Utah's Attorney General's office and guess what? They said so far as they no there is no law that discusses whale hunting in Utah. But, that doesn't mean that there are no laws or cases that deal with whale hunting. So I did a quick West search. You know what I came up with? Nothing, nope not a single dang thing. There is no statute or rule in Utah that discusses whale hunting. Go to Google scholar or to le.utah.gov/UtahCode if you want to perform a search for yourself if you don't have access to Westlaw or Lexis. However, just to be thorough I also conducted a search for whale fishing. That also came up with nothing. Nope, no single law in Utah deals with whale hunting. Now, there may have at one time been a law like that I am not sure. In fact I don't think one can ever prove a negative. However, let us for now just remember the old adage: cites or it didn't happen. Especially when it comes to strange laws.

Well goodnight everyone.
