Day 3: Rain Delay

Greetings dear readers (and you from Russia whoever you are!) Yes, if you read the parenthetical I got a page visit from someone in Russia. That is not what's important. Nope, what is important is that my plans today got rain delayed. I was intending on going up to a Buddhist temple to see what they did for Buddha's birthday--I assumed there would be trees and a Buddhist version of Santa--however, my assumptions may never be proved wrong since I had to turn back because of the rain, that and I got there too late and the festival was cancelled. What I did do though was in many ways more interesting, and life sustaining.

If there is one thing I learned while watching the show Naked and Afraid (a show where people try to survive in hostile environments both naked and afraid) it is that water is important. So much so people try anything to find it. I did the same. Except instead of hiking through a jungle I walked a few blocks after doing some Googling. You see I found a nice little market where I was able to find 6 liters worth of water and lugged that back on foot to my flat. I also bought a few more essentials and will be able to survive for most of the week.

After I bought some food for the rest of the week I came back to do some research for lunch. During that time I met to of the flatmates. Both really nice guys. One of them even gave me a suggestion on where I should go for lunch. It is a restaurant down the street from the Pacific Hotel in Sheung Wan with a really shiny, colorful billboard. Holy cow did that place taste amazing. Since it was my first lunch I decided to splurge a smidge and got the sizzling prawns (shrimp) with noodles. Simply fan-freaking-tastic! The flavors were well blended and it was just delicious. I will be going back there again. And for my future visitors we are going there because it is just that good!

After lunch I decided to try and go to the Buddhist temple, which, as you know, was a bit of a bust. But I made lemons into lemonade dear readers and explored around Diamond Hill a bit and observed some of the culture in Hong Kong. It's very Asian. But at the same time it is very similar to the States. Especially since everyone and their dog (not literally although in a few years who knows) was on a cell phone. Texting, talking, playing games, Facebooking, pretty sure one guy was looking a sext (sex text message) just using their phone. Quite interesting. I saw children just milling about going shopping. Talking about their friends. From the animated way the girls were talking and their facial expressions they were talking about one of their dates from recently, which caused giggles galore.

Another interesting thing for me were the advertisements that are plastered everywhere. Below are some of my personal favorites.

This one is for my brother in law Kennedy. Mostly because the advert I would do for this would be. Men when you ask ladies to be your bride make sure she says, "Lukfook"

Now this one is something I never thought I would see. First, it's Bruce Wayne from Batman wearing Chocolate. Now, I know this is a clothing store. I get that. It's fine. But why Wayne. I mean seriously why? Are you saying rich people with psychological issues can only wear this brand? Also why is Bruce going to public school? Seriously, shouldn't he be going to some rich snobby school for rich snobby people? Now I also have to ask does Batman wear dark chocolate? As a further aside does Bane ask, "I wonder what will break first your body or your Kit-Kat?"

Oh this picture what can I say about this picture. This is a picture about the consequences of if you don't ride the escalator properly. The pink girl is taking a little tumble down the stairs. The green guy is dropping his phone and gets a sentient angry growth on his head. The blue girl smashed her foot and gets a sad sentient growth on her toe. Either HK's elevators are coated in some kind of mutagen or these people got serious problems.

This one is blurry I get that. There is a line of facial products that are advertised. They all have ridiculously Asian names like "Wonderfully Waterly" and have pictures of old starletts next to them. This one, even if blurry, is my most impressive shot of the day. I was taking this while riding down an escalator, potentially to have a new friend on my head, and stepping off that escalator at the same time. I literally whipped out my phone, took a step onto the non-moving pavement, and snapped this picture without falling or disrupting the flow of traffic. Yes, I am that good.

Well friends I must away I have things to do and people to see. Tomorrow will be my first day of work. I will update you when I can. And remember I don't always buy water when I want to drink it but when I do I prefer 6 liter jugs. Stay thirsty my friends.
